They brought back some fond memories, so here’s a scan of the cover of my favourite. I love the shot because it portrays everything I like about competition cars.

Inside there’s lots of footage of Juha Kankkunen when he was a young charger, standing on the bonnet of the Celica Twin Cam Turbo after winning the Safari Rally. Sadly, the Safari Rally is no more on the WRC calendar, but I’m planning several features on the Celica as a rally car over the next few months, so stand by for some more features if you’re a fan of the old Toyota Celica as a rally car.

These publications were originally distributed through the dealer network in the UK and I always used to grab one when they came out. Lots of shots of old AE86 Corolla race and rally cars, before drifting came along, plus various one make racing series throughout the world. If I have the time, I’ll add some more cover shots later this month, but more Celica rally car stuff again soon.

OK, here’s something I found when clearing out my stash of VHS video cassettes just last month. When the Carlos Sainz GT Four was launched in the UK, they only brought in 500. Each one was numbered and came with a VHS tape and here’s what was on it. It’s mainly footage of a road car on a test track and some short clips of a rally car in Africa. Love the syn-drums and the nineties sound track..
I’m sure I’ve got the accompanying brochure around somewhere too, if I unearth it, I’ll put a quick picture online.
